Arrival in Whitby
You are Mina Murray. While your fiancé, Jonathan Harker, is away on business in Transylvania, you have come to the seaside town of Whitby to stay with your dear friend, Lucy Westenra.
Whitby is beautiful, with its red-roofed houses piled up the steep valley and the noble ruin of the Abbey standing guard on the East Cliff. Lucy is in high spirits, having just received three marriage proposals in one day! She has accepted Arthur Holmwood, a noble and handsome man.
However, you haven't heard from Jonathan in over a month. A vague anxiety gnaws at you. Today, you sit with Lucy in the churchyard overlooking the harbor, accompanied by a cynical old fisherman named Mr. Swales.
"It be all fool-talk," Swales grumbles, tapping the tombstones. "Lies all of them, nothin' but lies!"
