You awake in your pentagonal house. To an outsider, your world might look like a vast sheet of paper, but to you, it is Flatland. You are a Square, a lawyer and a gentleman of good standing. Here, your social rank is determined by the number of your sides.
The air is filled with the usual morning fog—a blessing, really, as it helps you judge the distance of other shapes by how dim they appear. Today is an important day at the Law Courts, but your wife is currently humming the Peace-cry in the hallway, swaying back and forth to ensure she doesn't accidentally stab anyone with her sharp endpoints.
