The Queen and the Donkey

The moon hangs low over the forest floor, casting long, twisted shadows. On a bed of soft moss and wild thyme, Titania, the Fairy Queen, sits doting upon her strange new love—Nick Bottom, who still sports the hairy head of a donkey.

"Come, sit thee down upon this flowery bed," Titania coos, weaving musk-roses into his coarse mane. "Let me kiss thy fair large ears, my gentle joy."

Bottom, unaware of how ridiculous he looks, is more interested in comfort than romance. He orders the tiny fairies—Peaseblossom, Cobweb, and Mustardseed—to scratch his itchy head and fetch him a snack. "Truly, I could munch your good dry oats," he brays. "Good hay, sweet hay, hath no fellow."
