You are Franz d'Épinay. While sailing the Mediterranean, you decide to visit the deserted island of Monte Cristo. To your surprise, you find it inhabited by a mysterious man who calls himself Sinbad the Sailor. He invites you into a hidden cavern that is furnished with the luxury of an Arabian palace—crimson brocade, Turkey carpets, and weapons encrusted with gems.
Your host, a man with a deathly pale face but penetrating eyes, offers you a strange green preserve on a silver spoon. He claims it unlocks the gates to a dream world.
"Judge for yourself, Signor Aladdin," he says with a strange smile. "Taste the hashish, guest of mine."
