A Letter from a Lord

It is a rainy autumn afternoon in Baker Street. I, Dr. Watson, sit surrounded by newspapers, nursing my old war wound, while Sherlock Holmes reads a letter that has just arrived.
"This is a professional case, Watson," Holmes remarks, his eyes scanning the page. "From one of the highest in England. Lord Robert St. Simon. He requires my assistance concerning the 'painful event' at his wedding."
I recall the headlines immediately. The disappearance of the bride, Miss Hatty Doran, the daughter of a Californian millionaire, right in the middle of the wedding breakfast! Lord St. Simon is due to arrive at four o'clock.
"He will be here in an hour," says Holmes. "Help me get clear on the subject, Watson."
