The Eagle's Back

You are Nils Holgersson, currently traveling on the back of the mighty eagle, Gorgo. You have left the wild geese for a short time to explore the northern forests of Medelpad. Below you, the world looks like a map. You see great rivers filled with floating logs and sawmills buzzing like giant bees.
"Look down, Thumbietot!" Gorgo cries, the wind rushing past his beak. "Here they harvest the forest just as they harvest grain in the south!"
Suddenly, the smell of pine changes to something sharp and stinging. Smoke! A white spiral rises from a ridge, turning into a thick, choking cloud. A forest fire is racing through the trees, leaping across brooks and frightening all the animals.
