The Home Under The Ground
Life in the Home Under The Ground is delightful. You and the Lost Boys fit perfectly into your hollow trees, sliding down like buckets in a well. Wendy is the perfect mother, darning socks and cooking make-believe meals that Peter eats with such gusto he actually gets rounder.
But today, the sun is shining on the Mermaids' Lagoon. It is a place of rainbows and bubbles, but dangerous when the sun sets. Peter suggests a visit to Marooners' Rock. The mermaids are there, basking and combing their hair, though they are rude to everyone except Peter.
While resting on the rock, a sudden chill hits the air. The sun vanishes. Shadows steal across the water. Peter springs awake, sniffing danger. "Pirates!" he whispers, his eyes gleaming with a mix of fear and excitement.
