The Traitor
You are Dr. Kemp. Standing in your study, you listen with growing horror as your former college acquaintance, Griffin, paces the room. He is no longer the man you knew; he is invisible, and his mind is shattered by power and isolation.
"It is killing we must do, Kemp," Griffin declares, his voice coming from empty air near the window. "A Reign of Terror. We must take this town and rule it. All who disobey must die."
Your heart pounds against your ribs. You have already sent a secret note to Colonel Adye of the police, and you can hear the faint sound of the front door opening downstairs. Griffin suspects nothing yet, but he is turning towards the door.
"I made a mistake working alone," Griffin continues. "But with you as a confederate..."
He stops. He hears the footsteps below.
