You are Dr. Watson. You arrive at Baker Street on a crisp autumn afternoon to find your friend, Sherlock Holmes, in deep conversation with a very stout gentleman. The first thing you notice about the visitor is his hair—it is a blazing, fiery red, a color so vivid it seems almost unnatural.
Holmes welcomes you warmly. "You could not possibly have come at a better time, my dear Watson," he says. "Mr. Jabez Wilson here has a narrative which promises to be one of the most singular I have listened to for some time."
Mr. Wilson wipes his forehead, looking confused and upset. He holds a crumpled newspaper advertisement in his hand.
