The Uncle's Intervention

Your Uncle Karl has arrived in the city, a whirlwind of rural anxiety and loud reproaches. Having heard of your trial, he is terrified for the family's reputation. He practically drags you to the home of Dr. Huld, an old friend and lawyer, hoping to secure your defense.
The lawyer is ill, lying in a dark room. While your uncle and Huld discuss the case with hushed intensity, you notice a young woman, Leni, the nurse, watching you from the doorway. She holds a candle, her eyes dark and inviting. The air in the room is stifling.
Your uncle demands you pay attention to Huld's rambling about his connections, but Leni signals you secretly, beckoning you to leave the room and join her in the kitchen.
