The Letter to England
The Siege of La Rochelle drags on. In a tavern near the camp, the four friends—Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D'Artagnan—huddle over a table. They know Milady de Winter is a deadly threat, and they must warn her brother-in-law, Lord de Winter, of her crimes before she can strike at the Duke of Buckingham.
"We must send a messenger to England immediately," Athos declares, his voice low. "Someone who can pass the blockade and the Cardinal's spies."
D'Artagnan looks at his loyal servant, Planchet. "It is a dangerous mission. If he is caught, he will be hanged."
Athos nods. "The letter must be vague. We shall call it a 'Family Affair'. We must tell Lord de Winter that his 'sister-in-law' is a monster who has already tried to kill him for his inheritance."
