The Wandering Capital: A Saga of Roots & Raids

You stand on the muddy banks of the Volkhov River. The year is... well, the chronology is debated, but let's say it's the late 9th century.

You are a Varangian (or a guest from over the sea, if we are being polite about the NATO implications). Your leader, a man whose existence is historically debated, has just died.

Now, the new boss, Helgi (Oleg), is pacing nervously. He looks at the wooden settlement of Ladoga.

"This place is too small!" Helgi shouts. "We need a Capital! But the scribes of the future are confused. Should we go to Novgorod? Does it even exist yet? Or should we head South?"

The wind howls with the voices of future historians arguing.
