The Trapped Men

You have been trapped for days in the scullery of a ruined house in Halliford. Outside, the Martians have established a pit, their machinery clanking day and night. But the danger inside is growing just as acute.
Your companion, the Curate, has lost his mind. He refuses to ration food, weeping and praying loudly. You stare at him across the dusty darkness. The Martians are just outside the thin walls. If he speaks above a whisper, they will hear him.
He stands up, his eyes wild. "I must bear witness!" he says, his voice rising dangerously. "I have been still too long!"
He is going to shout. He is going to kill you both.
