The Gray Prairie

Dorothy stood in the doorway, looking out at the great gray Kansas prairie. Everything was gray—the sun-baked grass, the painted house, even Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. The only thing that wasn't gray was Toto, a little black dog with twinkling eyes who made Dorothy laugh.
Suddenly, the sky turned a dark, scary color. The wind began to wail, and the long grass bowed flat. Uncle Henry shouted, "There's a cyclone coming, Em! Run for the cellar!"
Aunt Em scrambled down the trap door, but Toto jumped out of Dorothy's arms and hid under the bed. The house began to shake violently.
