You leave the sparkling green gates of the Emerald City behind. The Guardian of the Gates has pointed you toward the West, where the Wicked Witch lives. There is no Yellow Brick Road here—only rough, hilly ground covered in daisies and buttercups.
The sun beats down hotly. There are no trees for shade. As you walk, the beautiful green dress you wore in the city turns pure white, and even Toto's ribbon fades to white. You are no longer under the protection of Oz.
Suddenly, a long, low howl echoes across the hills. The Wicked Witch has seen you with her one powerful eye!
"Wolves!" cries the Scarecrow. "A whole pack of them is coming right at us!"
